The most wonderful time of the year

December 17, 2017

I have been so busy, not a great excuse for the lack of posts but it has been crazy over here. Like everyone else we have been busy preparing for Christmas along with battling the ugly flu. I think we are all healthy now…Seth actually was complaining of a runny nose and sore throat last night, so I hope it doesn’t turn into more than that. Speaking of preparing for Christmas, we decided to celebrate a little early over here because we head back to the US in 3 days….YES WE WILL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS! (does my excitement translate through the text?)  Thankfully, Santa agreed to come see us this weekend and both Henry and Matilda woke up to some fun gifts. Nothing is better than seeing a toddlers excitement and that look of aww they give when they see the presents. And for Henry the cookies and milk being gone was a huge deal! He thought it was so cool that Santa actually ate all his cookies and drank the milk. But, something tells me it wasn’t such a hard task for him. This year Santa has been kind of like a celebrity to Henry. He talks about Santa constantly and we really played up the whole visiting Santa and telling him what you want for Christmas. Henry couldn’t wait, he was so excited standing in line to do so but what happened next was priceless. When we got up to see Santa and when we put Henry on his lap he completely froze! He couldn’t move, didn’t tell Santa what he wanted, and in the picture looks like a deer in the headlights. I am pretty certain after he was disappointed because he didn’t want to talk about it or look at the picture. We assured him he can see Santa in Indiana too so he can have a redo. If you are wondering what Matilda did…she cried. The picture is pretty hilarious a crying Matilda and a deer in the headlights Henry.

So, today was spent lounging in our Christmas jammies, watching Christmas movies, eating an unhealthy amount of sweets, and doing anything else that I thought sounded Christmassy. It’s actually been really refreshing to not feel the pressure of having to be anywhere today and really enjoy watching the kids play with their toys and spend time together. Oh, and side note Henry informed me this morning that Santa did not land on our roof with his sleigh, but he actually came by airplane. I guess the reindeer needed to rest for the actual big day? Idk? Ahh I can’t forget, I want to tell you about our Christmas tree story. I was going to make it a completely separate post but time got away from me. Every year we get a real Christmas tree, we have made a tradition out of it since we were married. We go to the tree farm and cut down our own tree and make a day of it decorating and what not. This year went a little differently…finding a real tree in Mexico isn’t super easy…they do sell them, but the price of a real tree here is crazy expensive, I’m talking 120 dollars for an average live tree! And you do not go to a fun little tree farm to get it either…you go to Home Depot, Costco, or even the mall. We settled for a fake tree this year and I decided to flock it out and bring a little snow to our Mexican Christmas. I’m pretty happy with what we found and we will revisit our tradition in a few years of cutting down a tree when we return back to Indiana, until then our flocked out fake tree will do the trick.

I am looking very much forward to seeing family and friends and along with a little snow. Personally, I am missing a good Indiana breakfast…you know the most unhealthy kind of filled breakfast you can get, with all the good stuff…biscuits & gravy, pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausage, corn beef hash…I want it all. I don’t think I plan on loosing any weight on this trip. While I can’t wait to be back in the US a part of me is hesitant about this trip. I am afraid I will go home to everything I’ve missed and when we return back I will go through the process all over again of missing everyone and everything I know as normal. I do like Mexico, I don’t want to give the wrong impression, but nothing beats home. Home is home. However, I know the sunny days will be calling my name after awhile and I will be ready for the nice Mexican weather agian. So, we will be home for Christmas and I can not wait. See you in 3 days Indiana….
