I thought I would do a little experiment and give one of those online boutiques that advertises super cute clothes for cheap a try. Well, you certainly get what you pay for. The online boutique I tried out is called sheinlove. I should have known given the name it would come with issues….but it was all about the experiment and to be honest the website looked well done. I even did extensive review reading on items and they all seemed to be legit. I now believe they were made up. I picked two items so that I could give them a fair review. I actually laughed out loud when I opened the package. I had ordered them in the beginning of January and just received them last week. It took them almost 3 months to arrive…another red flag. OK, let me give you visuals. Here are the two items I purchased.
What I opened up was a different story. My first item, the “strappy casual maxi dress” as it is referred to by sheinlove was basically a moo moo. I put it on and the pockets were to my knees, I couldn’t even comfortably put my hands into them. Oh, and not to mention the color that shows in the picture came to me in this light blue. Not even close to tan. The fabric isn’t that appealing either. I will say, it probably won’t get tossed aside completely though, because I think I can use it as a swim cover up. The fabric is so thin its not like I will be hot in it and it should dry quickly. On a scale from 1-10, I am being generous here, but I will say a 3 since it will get some pool and beach use.
As for the second item, this one was even more of a joke. While the fabric is nice and airy and would be super comfortable on a hot day the stitching was terrible and overall craftsmanship was very poor. As for the top I can give some major side boob in it but it’s not the kind of side boob anyone wants to see. The straps on the top are basically a thin string that doesn’t come with any kind of adjustment…hence why I can give major side cleavage. The skirt does not have the flow that it shows in the perfectly styled model either. It’s a striped A-line skirt that has zero flow. Overall I give this item on a scale from 1-10 a 2 because the fabric of it does actually feel good. I like silkiness of it and how airy it is.
Unfortunately, I lost around 40 dollars after it was all said and done. I did learn a valuable lesson that you get what you pay for. So, be cautious my friends and for now I think I’ll stay away from the too good to be true websites, promising quality clothes for cheap. If anyone out there has a recommended website that doesn’t break the bank and does actually hold true to what they market, let me know!
